Baby Penguins Prepare to Face L.A. Kings

By Artistry

The Penguins today recalled forwards Ryan Craig, Nick Johnson, Brett Sterling, and Joe Vitale from Wilkes-Barre, leading Finesse to remark, "Maybe the goal is to send the Kings coaching staff on a fruitless mission to find tape of Joe Vitale so they can gameplan." Really, we're scratching our heads over this one. Why send down Eric Tangradi yesterday? The Big Dog was playing well. It seems unlikely - actually, I'm upgrading that to impossible - that replacing him with Vitale makes the Pens a better team tonight. Is something else afoot? Is Joe Vitale being showcased for a trade? Isn't it better to just maintain the mystery of Joe Vitale, thereby letting his legend grow?

Matchup Problem for Los Angeles

  1. It would be cheaper at this point for the equipment staff to sew the NHL players' names on the back of Baby Pens jerseys rather than sew the called-up Baby Pens' names on the back of new NHL jerseys.

  2. Looking at this more closely now, it looks like Vitale will fill Cooke's role on the PK. That still doesn't explain why the Pens go with Craig or Sterling over Tangradi. Nick Johnson actually has some goal-scoring pedigree and deserves a chance. Anyway, in Shero we trust.

  3. Maybe they want Godard to get first line minutes. I mean he was the only forward last game with less minutes than Tangradi. We really need to see what Godard can contribute offensively.

  4. Tangradi needs to log minutes in WB. He looked slow at nhl level. Chances are we will continue to lose. Might as well see what the prospects can contribute. Tangradi had 12 games and was mostly invisible. Vitale is known for his speed and defensive play. Could be a cheap talbot replacement next year. Let's see what he can do.

  5. You're probably right, rs. Nick Johnson deserves a shot as much as anyone. I really can't say that we know anything about Vitale. At least these guys will be pumped up. Should bring a good energy.

  6. I don't know, I thought Tangradi had our best chances against Columbus with limited minutes. Puzzling to me.

  7. WB/S's finest are showcased tonight for the scouts. If any one of them stands out, he will be part of a package deal on Feb. 28.
